Papertrey Ink 6th Anniversary Designer Favorites

Good morning PTI fans.  I am enjoying all of the 6 year anniversary contests and festivites, how about you?  On Nichole's blog the other day the contest was to pick one of PTI's designers favorite creations from the year and copy it.  It is hard to choose because I have so many favorites but one project in particular really caught my eye!  Melissa Phillips vintage tag set was so beautiful that I just had to try and re-create it the best I could.  The chipboard coupled with the paint and the sewing and the glitter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ OH MY!!!  Such a pretty combo and making it was so much fun!!!  Here is my version of Melissa's tag.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
Mine is great already!

Papertrey Ink is turning 6 and I am joining in the fun!  All the designers have designed a free printable to make a card with and today I have chosen Heather Nichol's Happy Birthday art.  It's so modern and clean, I just fell in love!  Here is the card:
I am very happy with the way it turned out!

Pillow box assembly for PTI's Make it Monday
Pillow boxes are so cute.  Honestly anything decorated with PTI stamps are cute!
Any excuse to use The Sweet Life stamps I'll take.
I stamped the pillow box with the background basics text style and heat embossed it with pink powder.  Yummy rose and pretty green bow and you've got a beautiful presentation!

Make It Monday #101: Layered Embossing and a Puppy!

It has been a very exciting week here at my house!  One week ago today we added a new addition to our family.  I guess three human children wasn't enough to keep me busy, I needed a puppy!  Let's just say I couldn't resist this:
Her name is Sophie (after much deliberation amongst 3 children) and she is a 10 week old Havanese.  She is a sweet dog with a great disposition and so smart.  It didn't take long for her to weasel her way into our hearts and my parents have threatened to puppynap her several times!!  We are enjoying our new addition!

Ok enough about puppy, on to my card for this week's Make It Monday challenge!  Of course being addicted to card making, I sat Sophie on a chair next to my craft table and got her input on this week's challenge!  We did very well together!  I love embossing and I never thought of embossing several colors over each other so I really had fun this week.  I dug out an old unity stamp set that I have and got to work.  I made a criss cross card and did some embossing on the insert.  I heat embossed the hearts with white powder and I embossed the "sweet love" sentiment in silver powder.  I just love the results! The envelope part of the card is so pretty with PTI papers, a doily and some scrumptious roses!!!
Here are a few images for you:

Make It Monday #100: How to Package Cards with Oversized Embellishments

Today at Nichole's blog, the Make it Monday challenge was how to package cards with oversized embellishments.  Honestly this has been a subject that I have been battling with for quite sometime until I discovered glassine bags!
I was so happy to have discovered glassine bags a while back because they seemed like the only option for oversized cards and they lend themselves to some beautiful embellishing!  I'm glad Dawn did a video on this subject because it was nice to see different options.  I had to make a baby card for a co-worker and my card had such a large bow on it, I had no choice but to use a glassine bag to fit the card.  I loved embellishing the bag and my favorite technique is to punch two holes in the top and thread a ribbon through them and tie into a big bow!
I love the bag as much as the card!
Here's the card and the beautiful bag:
Apologies for the poor lighting.

Make It Monday #99: Repeats & Rainbows

Good morning!  I was really happy to see rainbows as the theme for this weeks make it monday challenge because not only do I adore rainbows but recently I went rainbow crazy!  Click here to see my post from last week with all of my rainbows!  Also, click here to see my rainbow in last week's chalkboard technique challenge.  The MFT die to create a rainbow is so much fun!!
I chose the number 6 rainbow color scheme
from Nichole's blog to use on my card.
I had to improvise on 2 of the colors since I don't have them but I still like how the card turned out.  I dry embossed the teacups to give them some dimension. Here is the card:

Hope you like it!
Have a great day eveyone!

Chalkboard Technique take 2

Hello all!  Today my daughter turns 19!  I can't believe how fast the years fly!  It's amazing to see what a beautiful young woman she has turned out to be.  She's a great daughter, sister, friend and a very kind hearted young woman.  I wanted to make her a special card and since I love the chalkboard technique so much I knew that would be the focus.  My new MFT rainbow die was the perfect addition to the chalkboard look!  Here is my second card for the week for the make it monday challenge.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAYLOR!!!

Make It Monday #98: Chalkboard Techinque

Is it wrong to be in love with a design technique?  Just checking because I am in LOVE with this new chalkboard technique!!!  I must admit that I tried it back when Betsy first did a blog post on it but I failed miserably.  I actually failed when I stamped back over the words with white ink but after I saw the video on this week's make it monday post I knew I had to try it again!  I am truly so enamored by the whimsical look of the faux chalkboard!  I used 6 different PTI stamp sets and 2 different PTI dies on this card and I am very happy with the way the card turned out.  Here is my entry for this week's Make It Monday challenge.

What a fun time I had designing this card!
I used the following PTI stamp sets:
Vintage Labels
Little Labels
Love Lives Here Holiday
Embellishments
Friendship Jar
&
Button Boutique

And I used the following PTI dies for my felt embellishments:
Flipping Out
&
Love Lives Here

Ok I'm off to sleep now seeing as how I've been up all night.  I work nights but instead of going straight to bed this morning, my craft table was calling my name!  LOL
Have a great day everyone!

Happy New Year!

R A I N B O W S

Happy New Year everyone!  Hope your holidays were loads of fun and you had lots of family and fun times!  Right before the holidays I ordered the rainbow die from MFT and never had a chance to use it.  Well, I finally broke out the die and boy is it loads of fun!!!  I've made a few cards and one fun little calendar with rainbows and I wanted to share them with you.  This die is so easy to use and makes the most adorable rainbows!
And the last project is actually an easel card that I turned into a calendar to stay on my desk.  Now I can stare at that cute little rainbow for a whole month!

Ok that's all the rainbows for now.  Have a great day everyone!

Make It Monday #97: 2012 A la Carte

Hi everyone!  I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays!  It always amazes me how quickly they speed by!  I am here today to enter the make it monday challenge this week.  I missed PTI's blog hop but the entries were so pretty!  Being a nurse means I work through Christmas so there was no time for card making.  Today I had a chance to make a card for this week's make it monday and I love the theme of choosing from one of 49 different challenges.  I actually wound up making a card that used two different techniques.
MIM #54  Glitter Buttons
and
MIM # 58 Graduated Backgrounds
Once I stamped the cute little bear from Baby Button Bits onto my graduated background, I just knew he needed a glittered button on his tummy!  So here is the end result:
Thanks for stopping by and have a Happy and Safe New Year everyone!
Have a great day!

Make It Monday #96: Patchwork Die-Cuts

It's not unusual for me to fall in love with Melissa's work, I enjoy her style so much!  I have to admit that when I saw this week's MIM challenge I wanted to copy it exactly.  Money is tight so I haven't had a chance to buy any of the new releases at PTI this month so I tried to copy Melissa's card as best I could.  Here is the end result and I love how it came out!
I really love the technique of patchworking die cuts  I will definitely be using this technique again!

Helping The Children of Newtown & MIM 96

If you are any warm blooded human with a heart than I know you have been saddened by the horrific tradgedy in Newtown last week.  I know I have wept over an over for all of the victims and families who's lives were forever changed on that horrible day.  It's so hard to make sense of senseless violence in this world.  Today I was drawn to a blog that I have been to before and I found something that I would like to share with whoever reads this post.  Amber of Damask Love is organizing a wonderful project to help the children of Newtown through art therapy.  She is a pediatric psychologist and she is urging us to help her by sending art supplies to  Newtown Youth & Family Services Center.  The fundraiser is called Drawn Together and if you click on the link, it will take you to Amber's blog to give you all the information on how you can help.
Drawn-Together-Button
It really is a wonderful fundraiser and I have made a card this week for the PTI make it monday challenge to include in my package of art supplies.  I encourage you all to do the same.  They are trying to put together creative kits for the children of Newton because art may offer a healthy coping mechanism for children experiencing difficult emotions.  You can make a monetary donation or send art supplies.  Anything would help!
Here is my card for the make it monday challenge and for my donation to Drawn Together!
Please share this information with all of your crafty friends!
Together we can reach a lot of people!

Hug your children a little tighter today and every day like I've been doing

Making washi tape

I wanted to share a card I made today with washi tape.  I saw a tutorial on how to make your own and I've been wanting to try it.  To be honest I might try buying it from now on.  It was fun but a little bit of a pain in the neck.  I got tissue paper in a few gifts recently and I used it to make the tape.  The tissue paper from the store Brighton reminded me of a zebra print and I also had some red tissue paper from Victoria's Secret.  Well, see for yourself, here is the card with the tape.
I like the way the card turned out and the tape looks cool but I think it's just way easier to buy it already made.  It's not that expensive and there are oodles of patterns available!
Well, that's it for now.
Have a great day!

Make It Monday #95: Layered Glitter Shapes - Take Two

Hi everybody.  I'm back again with another card for the make it monday challenge.  I had so much fun making the first card I wanted to give this technique another try.  I liked the idea of the ornaments with the decorative strips across them so I thought I would re-create that look with hearts for Valentine's Day.
Here is my take on the challenge.
See you soon!

Make It Monday #95: Layered Glitter Shapes

Here I am again playing along with another Make it Monday Papertrey project.  Oh how I love my PTI stamps and dies!  This week for the layered glitter shapes I chose to glitter up some pretty little butterflies from the Heart to Heart #10 die collection.  I layered some little hearts on them before I glittered them and then added some dainty pink rhinestones for some extra bling.  The sentiment stamped on the tag sale 6 die is from the half and half stamp set.  I love the detailed stitching too!  I wish my sewing machine wasn't so heavy because I would probably stitch on every card.  I've got to find a permanent home for it!
Here's my card for the week:

Make It Monday #94: Detail Glitter Technique

Good morning.  I always look forward to Monday mornings to see what make it monday challenge Nichole has on her blog.  Thanks to Erin, I will be covered in glitter until next year at Hanukkah!  This challenge was so much fun and I immediately thought that the perfect place for glittery highlights would be the lights on the Menorah! The Menorah Medley stamp set with matching dies was the perfect tools to make this lovely card!  I love Hanukkah for so many reasons but to see the Menorah fully lit is such a beautiful sight, I loved re-creating it on this card.  I hope you enjoy!  I managed to glitter the candles and the borders on the top and bottom of the card.
Have a great day everyone and if you celebrate Hanukkah like I do than you know we are celebrating in less than a week!
Happy glittering everyone!

Make It Monday #93: Splitting Die Cuts

It's time for another Make it Monday challenge.  Thank goodness there's a whole week to play because life is soooo busy!  I've been thinking about splitting dies and which ones to split and how to split them.  It wasn't until I decided to use my new soft blush pattern pack that the fillable frames 5 die jumped out at me and asked me to be cut in half.  Sounds silly but with all it's rounded edges it just seemed to match the pattern on the paper.  I split the fillable frames die and turned the pieces around so the rounded edges faced into my card.  Here is a sweet little baby card for the make it monday challenge.

Ok there is the front and inside of my card.  Hope you enjoy your day!

Papertrey Make It Monday #91: Faux Pockets

Good evening everyone. Tonight I am playing along again at what it is quickly becoming one of my favorite weekly challenges!  Dawn McVey has created a very cute card with a faux pocket on the front for this week's PTI Make it Monday Challenge.  I Love watching her videos!  She is so easy to follow and understand and I love her classic style!  I chose to use my heart to heart stamps for this challenge because I thought those adorable coffee cups would look so cute on the front of the pocket.  Here is my take on the challenge.

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 171

I've recently discovered another designer that I am in awe of.  If you haven't visited Karen Giron's blog already, I suggest you head over there now.  She is so talented and makes the cutest cards.  One of the reasons that I am so impressed with Karen is because she decorates the insides of her cards to match the fronts.  I have always wanted to decorate the inside but I always seem to draw a blank by the time I finish the front.  Karen has given me new inspiration and now I have been decorating all of the insides of my cards.
The sketch this week on Karen's blog for the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge looks like this:
Here is my take on the sketch.  I used one of my favorite images from the Pure Innocence collection and colored her with copic markers.
(front of card)

And I'm proud to say that thanks to Karen I am getting more and more comfortable and creative with decorating the insides of my cards.

I enjoyed using this sketch and some fun colorful papers!
Have a great day everyone!
I just did!

Papertrey Ink MIM #90 and a little inspiration!

Good morning everyone.  Today I have a card to share with you that came from a very unusual place!  We all know that inspiration is everywhere and that includes the break room at work.  I went to get a cup of coffe before my shift and I found this beautiful mug sitting on the microwave.  Well, I did what any of us crafty cardmakers would do.....I took a picture.  LOL
I knew I just had to recreate that design onto a card as soon as possible.  I just can't resist the pink and brown with polka dots and stripes!
The very next day I was over at Nichole's blog to see what the make it monday challenge would be and I instantly knew what I was going to make.
Here is the card that was inspired by a mug and the Papertrey Ink MIM challenge.
(front of card)
(inside of card)

The Make it Monday challegne was to create a focal point sentiment with stamps and dies.
I used the sentiment "I believe in you" from Flower Fusion #12 and I substituted the word "YOU" with the block alphabet dies.  I stamped the roses inside and out with stamps from The Sweet Life stamp set. On the inside I die cut the roses with The Sweet Life dies.  The polka dot background is from the Bitty Dot Basics paper pack.
I hope you are all enjoying your day and I hope everyone gets out and votes today!!!!
If you need any information on voting Nichole has put together a great blog post on the history of women's right to vote with some informational links on voting in your state.

Have a great day!

I really love how the card turned out!
